Omeka is an open source CMS for sharing digital collections and creating media-rich web exhibitions. As a web application, it allows users to publish and exhibit cultural heritage objects and extend its functionality with themes and plugins. Omeka is a lightweight solution compared to traditional institutional repository software such as DSpace and Fedora.
Operation
We offer a cloud-based solution for Omeka. This means that for an annual fee, your library gets access to a separate installation of Omeka, with a separate database and the ability to freely make the adjustments available through the administrative interface. We take care of all tasks related to software upgrades, data backup and other technical maintenance.
The installation is based on the official versions of Omeka, with any necessary adjustments (usually this will involve fixing bug fixes before they come as part of an official Omeka release). Updates will be made as new stable versions are made available.
The cloud-based solution means that libraries will not have access to modify the source code in their installation themselves, as the source code will technically be shared between all libraries using the facilities in the cloud. If your library needs to make adjustments to the source code, please get in touch and we will find a solution for this as well.
